Buying a house on your own after a divorce

After a divorce, lots of questions arise all at once: what can you manage on a single income, and what does that mean for the coming years?

The story of {names}

A mortgage on a single income?

After nearly 23 years together, we decided to split up. From that moment on, I found myself with lots of questions.

What happens next? What’s the maximum mortgage I can get on my own? What’s our current house worth? Can I keep my favourable interest rate? What will my monthly repayments be, and can I actually afford them in the current climate? And what will those monthly repayments look like over the coming years? For example, will I still be able to afford renovation costs in the future?

From a flood of questions to clarity

From day one, Tom helped me find peace of mind and calm amidst all my questions. He set about sorting everything out for me and, by our second meeting, he already had a plan with answers to my questions.

He showed me my options in a clear and straightforward way. As a result, despite the divorce, I left feeling cheerful. It gave me a sense of reassurance and I knew what steps to take next.

Looking to buy my own home

Thanks to his clear explanation, I knew what my options were. That made the decision to buy again a quick one. Owning a home gives me a greater sense of security.

I’ve now bought my new home. I’m really pleased it isn’t a run-down property. I’ll be moving in after three weeks, and our old house will go to the next buyer.

Peace of mind and clear advice

I look back fondly on my dealings with Tom and his colleagues. They gave me peace of mind and clear advice.

Another thing I really loved was that, just after I’d bought my new home, Tom sent me a text to ask if everything had gone well and to wish me luck with the DIY.

Have you made up your mind about your financial decision yet?

Book a free consultation. Just a good chat about your situation.

How much does an initial consultation cost?

The first consultation is, of course, free of charge. We’ll discuss your situation, plans and any questions you may have, and see how we can help you. We’ll then explain what the next steps are, and any costs that may be involved. That way, you’ll know exactly where you stand from the outset.

Are you really independent?

Yes. We are not tied to any one bank or insurer, and we do not work on commission. We are familiar with all the providers, their costs and their terms and conditions. We’ll look at which provider best suits your situation.

What do I need to prepare?

Think about what you’d like to discuss and what plans or questions you have. A rough overview of your income, fixed expenses and any mortgage will help us get started, but it isn’t essential for the first meeting.

Would you like specific advice during the first meeting? If so, it would be helpful if you could bring your payslip, a statement of your savings, a list of your loans, etc., or send them to us in advance.
If you’d like, we can set up your account on the client portal in advance so you can upload documents. Please let us know when you book your appointment, and we’ll create an account for you.

Can I come here as an expat too?

Yes. Even if you’re an expat, we can help you with your mortgage and other financial queries. We’ll look at how your income and circumstances factor in and which options are best suited to your situation. We have extensive experience in this area. The consultation can be in Dutch, English or Polish.

Do I need to pop into the office?

You’re welcome to visit our office on the Slinge in Rotterdam. Of course, you can also book an online appointment. Whichever suits you best. You’ll receive the same personalised attention and clear explanations.

We’re open Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm and on Thursday evenings by appointment.

I’m an entrepreneur – can I come to you for help?

Yes, of course. As an entrepreneur, your annual income can vary. We’ll look at your personal and business circumstances and find out which mortgage options are best suited to your situation. You can also come to us with any questions you may have about your pension, insurance and financial future.
