Sustainability mortgage
Want to make your home more sustainable without having to move into a cabin in the woods or use up all your savings? Include insulation, solar panels or a heat pump in your mortgage.
How can I finance the energy-efficiency improvements to my home?
More and more homeowners are choosing to make their homes more sustainable. Not only to save energy and reduce monthly costs, but also because an energy-efficient home is often worth more. Think of solar panels, insulation or a heat pump.
Not every renovation qualifies as a sustainability measure. Banks and lenders have clear guidelines.
Which measures can you finance?
- Solar panels or a solar water heater: lower electricity bills, often recouped within a few years.
- HR++ or triple glazing: greater comfort, less cold and draughts.
- Roof, floor or wall insulation: significant savings on your heating bills.
- Energy-efficient window frames: longer lifespan and better insulation.
- Heat pump or connection to a district heating network: reduced dependence on gas.
These investments often improve your living comfort whilst reducing your energy bill.
What does this mean for your monthly outgoings?
A higher mortgage means higher monthly payments. However, this is offset by a reduction in your energy bills. We’ll work out the figures for you so you can understand the payback period and make the right choices. Book an appointment.
FAQ on sustainability mortgage
Should I go and live in a countryside cottage?
Not at all. Making your home more sustainable doesn’t necessarily mean you have to change your whole way of life. It’s mainly about which measures suit your home, your preferences and your budget.
Sometimes, good insulation is a smart first step. In other situations, solar panels or a heat pump might be worth considering. We’ll look at what’s financially feasible and what you feel comfortable with.
Can I get an additional mortgage to make my home more sustainable?
In certain situations, you can borrow additional funds for energy-saving measures. The amount you can borrow depends, amongst other things, on your income, the property’s energy rating and the measures you wish to carry out.
Will I actually notice the benefits of sustainability in my wallet?
That depends on the investment, the financing costs and how much energy you save as a result. A lower energy bill does not, therefore, automatically mean that your total monthly outgoings will fall straight away. We look at both sides: what does the sustainability measure cost per month, and what is it expected to yield?
Do I have to stop using gas altogether to make my home more sustainable?
No, not necessarily straight away. Going completely off gas can be a great final step, but first make sure your home is ready for it. You can also make your home more sustainable step by step, for example with insulation, HR++ glazing or other energy-saving measures.
Which steps make sense depends on your home, your plans and, of course, your budget. So you don’t have to do everything all at once.
Be confident in your choice.

How much does an initial consultation cost?
The first consultation is, of course, free of charge. We’ll discuss your situation, plans and any questions you may have, and see how we can help you. We’ll then explain what the next steps are, and any costs that may be involved. That way, you’ll know exactly where you stand from the outset.
Are you really independent?
Yes. We are not tied to any one bank or insurer, and we do not work on commission. We are familiar with all the providers, their costs and their terms and conditions. We’ll look at which provider best suits your situation.
What do I need to prepare?
Think about what you’d like to discuss and what plans or questions you have. A rough overview of your income, fixed expenses and any mortgage will help us get started, but it isn’t essential for the first meeting.
Would you like specific advice during the first meeting? If so, it would be helpful if you could bring your payslip, a statement of your savings, a list of your loans, etc., or send them to us in advance.
If you’d like, we can set up your account on the client portal in advance so you can upload documents. Please let us know when you book your appointment, and we’ll create an account for you.
